Titus 2:1-3(Recovery Version)
But you, speak the things which are fitting to the healthy teaching. Exhort older men to be temperate, grave, of a sober mind, healthy in faith, in love, in endurance; older women likewise to be in demeanor as befits those who engage in sacred things, not slanderers, nor enslaved by much wine, teachers of what is good.
Healthy teachings imply sound doctrines which are according to the gospel of God, nourishing and healing the sons of God. This teaching sows the seed of life in the heart of everyone who believes that Jesus is the lord, died for mankind, and is alive today. Part of the reason why the church needs God’s healthy teaching is that it brings the church into a sound condition with good order.
The aged men in the church must have self-control, moderate in understanding both in the church and their homes, be vigilant, sound in faith, in charity, and be patient. Anyone sound in faith will be able to put their household in orderliness. One of their roles includes ensuring that the younger generations coming up both in the church and the communities leave to expectation and according to God’s standard.
Paul’s counsel to older women here is to flee slander and act as a good steward who befits the worthy status of Phoebe who was a deaconess of the church in Crenchrea. The word of God says she lived to an expectation and walked in the counsel of God. Beloved in the lord, Jesus who is the head of the church demands similar results from us. The young aged men and women. Let’s commend this counsel and align with His true ways. I pray that the Spirit of the LORD will guide and help you in this season.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of life. Help us to live up to expectations. Guide our actions, and our thought and cause us to triumph over every weakness that will prevent us from fulfilling your command in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
