John 19:33-34(ESV)
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.
Two substances came out of the Lord’s pieced side on the cross: blood and water. His blood is for our redemption, to deal with sins( John 1:29, Hebrew 9:22) for the purchasing of the church( Acts 20:28). Water is for impacting life, to deal with death for producing of the church. The Lord’s death took our sins and imparted His life to us.
The death of Christ has two aspects, the redemptive aspect and the life-imparting aspect. The redemptive aspect is for the life-implementing aspect. The gospel of Mathew, Mark, and Luke portrays only the redemptive aspect of the Lord’s death but the gospel of John both gives us insight into His redemptive work and the life-implementing aspect.
Beloved, the death of Jesus that imparts life released the Lord’s divine life from within Him for the producing of the church, which is composed of all His believers into whom His divine life has been imparted. This life imparting death of the Lord is typified by Adam’s sleep out of who Eve was produced and is typified by one grain of wheat that fell into the ground for the bringing forth of many grains (John 12:24) to make us one bread- the Body of Christ.
Prayer:
Thank you heavenly Father for giving me lively hope and an assurance of genuine love on the cross. Lead and guide me to be fruitful and walk on every account of your word in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
