Psalm 119:9(ESV)
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
The act of meditation dives more into reflecting, pondering and speaking the word of God as you ponder on it. The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi by saying: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things(Philippians 4:8)
Believers are being admonished and encouraged to ponder on things that are just, pure, lovely and those things which are of good report. The word of God has the fullness of what the Apostle shared in this verse. Many of the difficulties we experience as Christians can be traced to a lack of Bible study and reading. We should not be content to skim through a chapter merely to satisfy our conscience.
Beloved, hide the Word of God in your heart. (In Psalm 119:11) the writer elaborated on this: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”. A little portion well digested is of greater value to the soul than a lengthy portion scanned hurriedly. Do not be discouraged because you cannot understand it all. Go on reading. As you read, the Holy Spirit will enlighten the passages for you. Reading the Bible has a purifying effect on the heart and mind. Stay blessed!!!
Prayer:
LORD God, thank you for giving us the daily bread of life which is your word. As I ponder on these things, help me to stay my mind and my heart on it every moment of my life in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
