The Pursuit of God – 11

Scripture: Colossians 3:2(ESV)
Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Christ is seated on the right hand of God. The right hand of God is an administrative place which is a place of power and authority. Christ alone was crowned to be there. Hallelujah. Bible says the child of God is seated with Christ in heavenly places( Ephesians 2:6). This means where Christ is seated, we are privileged to also be there.

You have to set your mind on the things that are above. Everything above is perfect because God will not give us that which is evil(James 1:17). Setting your mind on Christ and His desires means setting your mind on things that are above. Why did Paul write this in our opening scripture?

The church in Colossae needed a reminder not to appease the flesh because of the struggle they have with the flesh. This is a message to also the present generation, that we will set our mind and conform to the will of God.

The remainder was to encourage them not to dwell on the formal that only kept them in bondage and yielded no gain to their spirit but self-satisfaction only. There is always a struggle between the mind conforming to the ways of the Father and what Christ want for our lives. If you consider the former lifestyle, you’re going to be misled but dwelling on the promises of God will help you fulfill your mandate. Glory to the lamb of God!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your power that works in me, to bring me under your watch and light, and to lead me to fulfill your purpose. Help me to set my mind on the things that are above and not earthly in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
